Overview of the EPS TOPIK Exam

What is EPS TOPIK?

EPS-TOPIK, i.e. Employment Permit System - Test of Proficiency in Korean, is a specialized Korean capability test.

The KLT or TOPIK are general tests that can be used for different purposes. In contrast, this is a special test for a specific purpose, which is to get foreign workers into the Korean labor market.

Test structure

This is a one-level exam. There are two sections:

Listening: 20 questions — 100 points, 25 minutes.
Reading: 20 questions — 100 points, 25 minutes

The total number of questions is 40 while the total duration is 50 minutes. There is no pause between these two modules.

Candidates can choose between two methods:

PBT (Paper Based Test), and
CBT (Computer Based Test).

All questions are MCQ (Multiple-Choice Questions), and you must choose one correct answer from 4 choices.

The exam curriculum

This tests your basic understanding of Korean society, corporate culture, and industry-specific information.

You also need communication skills for beginners in the Korean language to carry out daily activities.

The reading segment has basic vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and practical daily tasks.

The listening contains basic conversation, pronunciation, and visual data for regular work.

How to pass EPS-TOPIK?

To pass, candidates need a minimum of 80 points out of 200. They also keep a list with the highest score from above.

However, the final selection will depend on the other eligibility criteria and the total number of applicants. HRD Korea decides on this.

How to apply?

You can register online on the government website when the dates are available. This is the easiest way.

Fill in the form with personal details and matters related to this test. Include the scanned copy of your passport and photo. Finally, fill out the form and pay the fees.

The validity of EPS TOPIK

The score is only valid for two years from the date of the announcement of test results.

Once the actual term ends, one must re-apply to apply for EPS jobs in Korea.

Who performs the test?

South Korea's Human Resources Development Service conducts the test.

The HRD Korea operates under the Ministry of Employment and Labor of South Korea.

They also have a partnership with various governments that help them organize the test.

What is the goal?

They designed it to measure the Korean skills of migrant workers.

This is to ensure that they can work in an environment where everyone speaks Korean and follows their own culture.

Do you want to work in manufacturing, construction, agriculture, and heavy and light industry in Korea?
